Leading up to his bout with Matt Hamill at UFC 130 this weekend, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson does not appear to be acting like himself lately.
Or at least that is how reporters observe him.
While attending a pre-UFC 130 press conference, Jackson was asked on how serious he was taking his fight with Hamill. Jackson said he always takes every bout seriously, despite sometimes being opposed to it.
Jackson said whether he prefers to fight his opponent or not, it is part of his job.
"Just 'cause I am not excited about fighting don't mean anything, I wasn't excited about fighting Chuck Liddell but it's my job, I've been fighting for a long time," Jackson said during the press conference, courtesy of MMAWeekly.com.
The former UFC light heavyweight champion became quite vocal in his displeasure of fighting Matt Hamill a few weeks prior, and critics began to question his passion for fighting much longer. On top of that, Jackson said he would pursue a movie career in the near future, implying his career was nearly finished.
But Jackson, who turns 33 this year, retracted his previous comments in front of the media and said he enjoys what he has accomplished throughout his mixed martial arts career.
"I love fighting. I do hate the training but I love fighting," he said.
What lies ahead for Jackson is a potential matchup with light heavyweight title holder, Jon Jones, should he get past Hamill this weekend.
And although he wasn't an opponent he expected to compete against, Jackson said he respects Hamill as a fighter, especially having to overcome adversity as a deaf athlete.
"I've always respected him ever since I met him, and I learned from watching him on The Ultimate Fighter that he was a deaf guy, you gotta' respect people like that."
