As a former hockey player and lifelong Boston Bruins fan in the post-Bobby Orr era, I have dreamed of having the chance to compete for the Stanley Cup.
The last time the Bruins took part in the Stanley Cup Finals was in 1990 and at only five years old, not many memories come back from that 4-1 series loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
The Eastern Conference finals have been a roller coaster of emotions. From the Game 1 letdown to the back-to-back B's wins and now coming off of a loss in Game 6, it all comes down to one game.
Game 7.
This begs the question: Are the Bruins going to ruin our collective Memorial Day weekend?
After blowing a chance to wrap up the series against the Lightning Wednesday night in Tampa, the Bruins now face another Game 7. The pressure is squarely on the Bruins.
With the game being played at TD Garden in Boston, the Bruins are not only playing for themselves, they are playing for the entire region. The entire city of Boston has invested so much time and energy (and not to mention the money spent on either going to the games or hitting the bars every other night) in this team that it would be a disaster if the season were to end Friday night heading into the holiday weekend.
That's why I'm here with an emergency backup plan.
NOTE: If for some reason you think you can solely jinx the hometown team by your own actions, please disregard the following.
I implore all of you Bruins fans out there to join me in wagering on the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7.
You heard me. I will be betting on Tampa to win the series.
Currently on many wagering sites, the Tampa Bay Lightning are plus-130 to win Game 7 (meaning you bet 100 to win your 100 back plus another 130). I have made the executive decision to pay for a Bruins win.
Don't get me wrong, I really want the Bruins to win and move on to the Stanley Cup Finals and I have decided that a Bruins win is worth paying for.
I have put in too much time and money into this team to come up empty-handed especially heading into the kickoff weekend of the summer. Here in Boston, we are looking at fabulous weather for the first time in a long time.
Come late Friday night when the game is over, I just don't think I can handle getting nothing in return.
I'll be heading into the long weekend with either my beloved Bruins having a chance to hoist the Stanley Cup for the first time in almost four decades...or a little extra money in my pocket to help ease the pain.
