NBA Rumors: Is LA Lakers' Andrew Bynum Primed to Break out in 2012?

The first thing the vast majority of NBA fans first think of when they hear the name Andrew Bynum is injuries.  What most fans don?t know about Bynum is that he's one of the hardest workers in the entire league.

The 23-year old center is entering the offseason healthy for the first time since 2007.

In 2008, a partially dislocated knee cap required surgery forcing him to miss the entire postseason in which the LA Lakers fell to the Boston Celtics.  He suffered a torn MCL in 2009, but was able to play through it as the Lakers won their first title since the Shaq and Kobe days over the Orlando Magic.  Bynum tore his meniscus in the first round of the 2010 playoffs, but heroically dodged surgery until the offseason as Los Angeles got revenge against the Boston Celtics in the Finals with Bynum?s help.

He did actually hyperextend his knee this past season, but it was nothing serious as he played in every playoff game and was a force.  Bynum averaged 14.4 points and 9.6 boards a game in the postseason.  He played better than Pau Gasol and showed why the Lakers are unwilling to trade him for anyone but Dwight Howard himself.

Bynum tweeted a couple of days ago that he?s been training with Freddie Roach in the boxing ring.  He already has tremendous length and leaping ability.  Some added quickness would do the 7?0?, 285 pound Bynum wonders.

He has continued to progress each season; of course, he has so much motivation to use to train.  Bynum has been caught up in trade rumors since just his second year in the league when Kobe Bryant was pushing for Bynum to be swapped with Jason Kidd.  In hindsight, it looks like the Lakers made the right choice on every possible trade they?ve passed on.

If healthy, look for Bynum to have an All-Star caliber season for the Los Angeles Lakers next year.
