MLB Rumors: Philadelphia Phillies Shopping at the Bargain Bin at Trade Deadline

MLB rumors surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies at the trade deadline lack star power.

In fact, it sounds like the Phillies front office is leaning over sifting through the bargain bin of DVDs in a large bin at Wal-Mart.

You can certainly understand why. They already did their heavy lifting in the offseason by signing free agent pitcher Cliff Lee. He formed the most fearsome foursome in recent memory along side Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt.

The issue with the Phillies is on offense. Chase Utley has been hampered by injuries and Shane Victorino is currently on the DL.What they need is a right-handed hitter that can play a solid right field.

Jason Churchill of ESPN.com lists a few potential targets for Philly:

Names that may fit Philly's plans include Royals right fielder Jeff Francoeur, San Diego Padres left fielder Ryan Ludwick, Josh Willingham of the Oakland Athletics and potentially Seth Smith of the Colorado Rockies.

From here it depends if the Phillies want a guy with some pop in his bat or a guy that is more of a contact hitter. Considering they play in the ultra tiny Citizen's Bank Park, I think getting a masher is in their best interest.

Of the above mentioned names, Francoeur stands out as the best fit. He used to play for the Atlanta Braves and is very familiar with the National League East. He can hit for power and plays an adequate right field.

Will the Phillies make the move? Or will they keep sorting through the bottom of the bargain bin?
