Hope Solo led the United States team to a dramatic victory over a heavily favored Brazil team in the 2011 Women's World Cup, and there is a large amount of hype surround the squad currently.
After Abby Wambach scored with just seconds left in the second overtime to tie the game 2-2, it was almost as if it was their destiny to take home the victory.
As the Los Angeles Times notes, the effort was a historical one.
About 20 minutes later - exactly 12 years to the date the U.S. edged China on penalty kicks to win the 1999 World Cup (remember Brandi Chastain, anyone?) - the Americans marked the anniversary with a 5-3 shootout win over Brazil.
"Even when we were a player down and a goal behind in extra time," Solo said, "you sensed that something was going to happen."
Despite Wambach's goal, it was more about Solo's efforts in goal than anything else that led the team toward a surprising win.
In other sports news...
Despite the NBA lockout looking like it's going to be a rather lengthy one, that hasn't stopped the Dallas Mavericks' momentum since winning the 2010-11 championship.
Just about everyone is pitching an idea as to what they should do for their rings, and the Bazooka candy company (yes, the same one with comic-wrapped gum) didn't want their two cents left out of the discussion.
Check out the candy rings that Bazooka sent to the Mavericks right here (via CBS Sports), because that certainly looks like one tasty treat that anyone can enjoy.
I'm guessing that the players would like something commemorative that they can't accidentally eat for a post-workout snack.
Nonetheless, that is certainly some outside-the-box thinking.
