Kobe Bryant's name has been floating around the Drew League since his surprise appearance.
Now, the league wants to get his name on their roster before the next matchup against the Goodman squad.
With less than three weeks remaining before the scheduled rematch (tentatively on September 10), the Drew League commissioner, Dino Smiley, admitted that it's going to be tough to get Bryant to join the action.
We only have three weeks and I think it?s going to be challenging, honestly, Smith said. But we?ll see what we can do.
There's no doubt that the game's national appeal would explode through the roof should Bryant be involved, as the two teams already roster some serious NBA talent already.
For what it's worth, Smiley believes that a rematch in Los Angeles would be too tasty for Bryant to pass up.
I would be surprised that, if it?s held in L.A., that he wouldn?t show up and play for it.
After the broadcasting website was unable to provide service to several parties that paid for the original event between the two sides because of an "unspecified volume of traffic", they should really look into upgrading their servers if Bryant decides to play in the next event.
There's no doubt that the Black Mamba would make the game a more fun one to watch, especially considering that his sole appearance at the Drew League this season resulted in him netting the game-winner.
It's going to be an uphill battle in an effort to get Bryant to commit, but if Smiley and the Drew League are able to secure him on the roster, Goodman is going to have a much, much tougher time playing in Los Angeles than they otherwise would have.
With Kevin Durant as the league's rising superstar and Bryant's career at its back-end, it's a story that practically writes itself.
