Sweet 16 Brackets: North Carolina Dominates Marquette Inside in the First Half

Atrocious Half by Marquette Gives North Carolina a Huge Lead

Well, just about everything that could go wrong for the Marquette Golden Eagles has gone wrong in the first half of their Sweet 16 game against North Carolina.

In my pre-game write up I mentioned that the way they would be able to pull an upset would be to disrupt the Tar Heels on the interior. Well, it seems like they didn?t get the memo. John Henson and Tyler Zeller are both leading the way for Carolina with 12 points apiece. The Golden Eagles have just 15 points total. Zeller has also added 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the first half alone. The one downside is that I don?t think he will be in a position for a 20-20 game because I just don?t see him getting the minutes to continue at that sort of pace.

The one thing that Marquette can take solace in is that they could not have possible played worse in the first half. They turned the ball over 12 times compared to just three by the Tar Heels and they shot just 20 percent from the field.

I really don?t see Marquette being able to get back into the game but I think they have a chance to play much better in the second half. Carolina has been known to take halves off but they were outstanding in the first half so it would take an incredible effort to get Marquette within striking distance.
