2011 Cricket World Cup: India and Sri Lanka Set to Meet in Finals

After 42 group and six more tournament matches having been contested over the past month, the Cricket World Cup is now down to just two teams.  From Group A, Sri Lanka advances to the finals to play India from Group B.  The match will be contested in Mumbai on April 2.

Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by five with 2.5 overs to go.  The top bowler for Sri Lanka was Rangana Herath, only allowing 31 runs over the span of nine overs (45 bowls). Tillakaratne Dilshan had 73 runs for Sri Lanka.  Daniel Vettori bowled great in a losing effort, allowing 36 runs in 10 overs.  Veteran SB Styris led his team with 57 runs for New Zealand.

India toppled rival Pakistan by 29 in a heated contest which saw Cricket Superstar Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar score 85 runs in what is likely to be his final World Cup appearance.  SR Tendulkar was named “Player of the Match” for his performance.  Had he scored an additional 15 runs, it would have been Tendulkar’s 49th career “100″ for ODIs.  Ashish Nehra allowed a paltry sum of 33 runs in the 10 overs he bowled.  MM Patel allowed 40 in his 10 overs for a fine performance.

San Francisco Giants: World Series Champions Fumble Away Tim Lincecum Start

San Francisco Giants Get Off on the Wrong Foot in Championship Defense

You don't want to throw any Tim Lincecum starts away. You only get so many. That is what happened Thursday evening from Chavez Ravine.

The San Francisco Giants were taking on their hated rivals in the first game of their title defense. They looked a tad rusty in the field.

When all was said and done, the Giants were on the wrong side of a 2-1 final score. The box score will also reveal a dirty little tidbit in the three errors that the defending champs committed. The crucial one came in the sixth inning.

Pablo Sandoval wanted to back-pick Matt Kemp who was leading off at third. Buster Posey fired the ball down towards third, it sailed past the bag out towards left field.

A scoreless game had a run, and the Dodgers claimed it as theirs. Little Timmy Lincecum did enough to get the win. "The Freak" went seven innings without giving up an earned run and striking out five. You know, regular ho-hum dominance.

This is the first season that this San Francisco ball club will enter as defending World Series champions. They looked a bit nervous with that type of weight on their shoulders. They will settle in and start winning ball games shortly.

The one player that never seemed to waver was Lincecum. Despite the errors, he continued to go out and pitch his game. This team will never suffer an extended losing streak when this guy gets the ball every few days.

This may not be the way you want to start the season, but this cast of characters leaves me confident they will be just fine going forward.

The 2011 NFL Draft is fast upon us, and everyone is wondering who will be the biggest busts this year.

History tends to repeat itself, and there have been some pretty historic busts in the Patriots past. Still, the Patriots have been fortunate not to miss on anyone too hard over the past few years (save for Laurence Maroney).

The Eagles Draft Will Focus on Michael Vick, Playoffs In 2011

Andy Reid is set to once again trade a starting quarterback off the team. You can do such a thing once normal business resumes and Michael Vick is on your roster.

The Eagles will be putting the franchise in the hands of Vick, who will be signing a fat new contract at some point. He will get this huge contract despite being injured twice during the course of the 2010 season. That is just how good Vick is, and it shows why the Eagles have to do everything they can to protect Vick in 2011.

Enter Derek Sherrod. Sherrod is the kind of raw offensive line talent Andy Reid can plug right in and have him start in Week 1. Sherrod is big and athletic and should be able to make the transition to the pros in short order.

The Eagles gave up 52 sacks last year, so Sherrod's job will be to reduce that number significantly and protect the franchise.

MLB Predictions 2011: Will Opening Day Teams Be Playing in Late October?

It's MLB predictions time for 2011! Opening Day is officially upon us, and with it comes the first signs that spring is officially upon us. 

Yes, of course I realize that spring actually started two weeks ago, but it's not really official until there's a parade in Cincinnati, and the umpire is calling "Play ball!" 

After an offseason that saw plenty of free agent and trade action, every team's slate is wiped clean, and reason for optimism abounds in 28 of 30 major league ballparks (sorry, Pirates and Mets fans, this just isn't your year). 

But, whose optimism will be well-founded, and whose will turn out to be as misguided as signing a 32-year-old outfielder to a seven year, $126 million deal? 

We're taking a look at the hopes of every big league club, starting with those taking the field on this most glorious of days, and breaking down their chances of playing in October.

Somali Journalist Killed While Covering Soccer Match Amid Heavy Fighting

A Somali sports journalist was hit in the Somali capital of Mogadishu by stray bullets and killed while covering a soccer match, according to the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ).

The death of Ahmed Hassan Ahmed, a sports reporter for SIMBA radio, weeks after a star soccer player was killed in a suicide bombing, highlights that nowhere does soccer involve a greater act of courage and defiance than in war-ravaged Somalia, a soccer-crazy Arab nation straddling Africa’s strategic Gulf of Aden.

Ahmed died of bullet wounds to the stomach and the shoulder. “As we were covering the match between SITT and Dekadaha, Ahmed fell to the ground at the second half of the match ” Somali Football Federation (SFF) spokesman Shafii Mohyadin Abokor said.

Somali league teams SITT and Dekadaha were playing in Mogadishu’s Hodan district as African Union-backed forces were battling militant Islamists of Al Qaeda-associated of Al Shabab, which controls large chunks of Somalia.

Soccer is a major battleground for the government, and the Al Shabab who have banned the game as "un-Islamic." Somalia’s U-20 soccer team suffered a serious setback in February when a militant Islamist suicide bomber killed one of its star internationals and wounded two other players.

The attack was also a blow for the SFF which is waging a campaign to lure child soldiers away from the Islamist militia with the prospect of a soccer career. World soccer body FIFA supports the SFF campaign that has succeeded in turning hundreds of Somali youngsters recruited by the militia into soccer players.

The SFF’s FIFA-backed campaign under the slogan "Put down the gun, pick up the ball” is one of the few successful civic efforts to confront the jihadists.

"However difficult our situation is, we believe football can play a major role in helping peace and stability prevail in our country, and that is what our federation has long been striving to attain. Football is here to stay, not only as a game to be played but as a catalyst for peace and harmony in society," Abokar said.

"If we keep the young generation for football, al-Shabab can't recruit them to fight. This is really why al-Shabab fights with us," adds another Somali soccer executive, Abdulghani Sayeed.

German Error Message ? We Arose

This is a nice little tune from Murfreesboro, Tennessee’s very own German Error Message, which is actually a sort of solo project of Paul Kintzing where he writes a bunch of tunes and then plays and records them with a bunch of friends. I’ve seen this music described as experimental folk, and while that doesn’t really come through in this tune, I’m currently listening to a few more tunes from his recently released album After The Warmth (which I’m really digging, by the way) and it’s becoming more clear. Brock Lesnar, LeBron James, Jimmer Fredette and Wednesday's Sports News

The Quicken Loans Arena came alive last night and begged the question: Can the biggest victory in a franchise's history come during a season full of epic failures?

LeBron James was there to bear witness. After all, it was he who ignited the fires in Cleveland by fleeing to the warm, sandy beaches of Miami.

In front of the crowd that he once called home, the same crowd that he spurned less than a year ago on national TV, he was finally humbled…at least for a night.

As the Cleveland Cavaliers shot out of their minds and Chris Bosh was irrelevant in a way that Chris Bosh has become accustomed to in big games, the King, as he is no longer known in those parts, was humbled.

The game, which, with all the vitriol could have been still written off as meaningless, was important last night. With a chance to pass the Celtics in the standings and gain ground on Chicago, the Heat failed.

They got outplayed by a team that wanted it more, that felt it more personally and was not going to be denied. They showed the fight they had claimed LeBron never had (after he left, of course).

Today, the Cavaliers will go back to being bad and the Heat go back to being dangerous. But for one night, the Cavaliers were what Dan Gilbert promised they would be.

Better than LeBron James.

Editor's Note: There's been quite a bit of confusion in the comments and on Twitter as to whether Erica's post represents her perspective on the challenge of Apple's service to a growing developer community, or personal frustration with being unable to register for WWDC due to the sellout. To clarify: Erica did not attempt to buy tickets and was not planning to attend WWDC; she has never attended WWDC due to ongoing family obligations that do not permit her the freedom for that much time away from home. The post has nothing to do with the supposed 'sour grapes' attributed by some feedback, as you cannot be shut out of a ticket rush for a conference you are not planning to attend.

This is perhaps one of the more intriguing albums that has arrived in my inbox recently. It’s from Indiana University junior Joseph Denney who goes by the name Spirit Spine. His album is entitled Glossolalia which, despite being pretty close to one, is actually not the name of a song by Sigur Ros (Although Glosoli is a pretty kick ass tune in its own right, if I do say so myself). 'The Good Wife' Season 2, Episode 18 Recap

How do you follow up last week's jaw-dropping episode? With this very slow, uninspiring episode! Although, any episode of 'The Good Wife' is generally heads above the competition.

Here's 'The Good Wife' style, viewers should be very familiar with: A jaw-dropping intense episode followed by a slower episode. The slower episode will then be followed by a slightly juicer one before another big payoff installment.

So, when's the big payoff? I won't discuss next week's previews besides this: They made me flail more than this episode.

However, this week we saw the return of America Ferrera and a very catchy murderous pop song.

Like any regular season, the time between the Super Bowl and the Draft is normally a time set aside for trading, dealing, free agency or maneuvering for draft picks.

If you have been in a coma for the last couple weeks, this isn't your everyday normal season. The collective group known as the owners, have assured us of this.

For the Raider Nation, the waiting to see if Al Davis can swing a deal for Asomugha continues to buzz in the background. Some coaches around the league pace in their collective offices, wondering when or if they will get a chance to see a future player perform, or will that person's development will be pushed back for months—even ruining a career or two.

Some contemplations that have surfaced, have ranged from players meeting apart from the team, to stay in touch and stay focused on football, while others have started selling their services to other sports, in case this lockout goes more than a year. No Raiders, as yet have decided to take up hockey, baseball or basketball, but I could imagine that Jacoby Ford would love to race against Chris Johnson in the track and field contests.

As all things Raider grind to a halt, some might even wonder if Al Davis will again, be called on to save the day. Considering his actions the last time both sides wanted to play stick in the mud, one has to wonder what threat Al could bring to the meeting—calling out demons or using his presence just to invoke progress.

As it stands, the Raiders have a lot to lose, both short-term and long term, with this lockout. For one, the momentum that stands from an 8-8 season, a young team with hope for better things and vets that are sticking around, from the long-term standpoint, possible help for the team to fund another stadium deal, given in California's current financial nightmare, would otherwise not happen.

Someone get Al Davis on an airplane, send him to the NFL Headquarters, and have him straighten out this mess.

Purgatory is no picnic and the childish actions between the owners and players has gone on long enough.

Kirstie Alley Actually Planned Her Surprise 'DWTS' Kiss (VIDEO)

Kirstie Alley knew last night's kiss at the end of her routine on 'Dancing With the Stars' was coming. Her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, did not. That, at least, is what the pair said today on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC).

"I had planned it, but I wanted to surprise him," Alley told 'Access Hollywood''s Shaun Robinson.

"I had no idea," said Chmerkovskiy.

Wrestlemania XXVII: The Rock, John Cena and of Course Snooki

WrestleMania XXVII is less than a week away, folks.

And all types of celebrity guests are slated to get involved. In order to catch up on the festivities I had to take a trip down memory lane last night and see some old friends.

The Undertaker was the first familiar face I saw when I clicked onto Monday Night Raw last night. He was arguing with the team I used to know as Degeneration X, (Yeah I'm dating myself): Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

(I wonder how many young fans even know what the three H's stand for).

With the Dead Man taking on Triple H in the upcoming WrestleMania I'm kind of torn. On one hand, I want the Undertaker's streak to get to 19-0 in WrestleMania events.

But on the other hand, who better to give him a loss than Hunter Hearst Helmsley?

Later on in the show they did the obligatory interview with Snooki in some bar, doing what she does, making little sense. It always seems like she is swallowing her tongue when she talks.

Quick sidenote: Again, I have been away for awhile so I haven't seen Trish Stratus as a brunette.

Me likey.

Finally they gave the update on The Miz vs John Cena matchup.

Before the champ came out, the Rock and Cena took turns giving speeches and entertaining the fans.

Both of them were very amusing as they ended nose to nose. That's when the clown prince Miz entered.

Suffice it to say Rock issued a smack down on him and a (much slower than I remembered) "People's Elbow".

Just when I thought the night would end with the Rock victorious, he got body slammed by Cena, who then pointed out to Mr. Johnson that he is unable to visualize fingers in front of his face.

It's not everyday that someone actually can smell what the Rock has cooking.

Can't wait for WrestleMania!

Brock Lesnar: Former UFC Champ Confident He Can Handle Junior dos Santos

Brock Lesnar Is Out to Get His Heavyweight Title Back from Cain Velasquez

It's been a little over five months since we last saw Brock Lesnar in the Octagon. As we all know, his last bout didn't exactly go all that well, as he had to hand over his Heavyweight championship belt to Cain Velasquez after being knocked out in the first round.

After months of radio silence following his defeat, Lesnar is about to be front and center in the public eye once again. He is scheduled to take on Junior dos Santos in June, and Lesnar will bridge the gap between now and then by coaching opposite dos Santos on the 13th season of "The Ultimate Fighter." The series will debut Wednesday night on Spike TV, and will conclude on June 4th, one week before Lesnar and dos Santos square off for the right to challenge Velasquez for the Heavyweight title on June 11th.

For those who watched Lesnar's bout with Velasquez, it was obvious that he had some serious holes in his fighting style. First and foremost, he was totally outmatched on his feet, which ultimately spelled disaster against a skilled striker like Velasquez.

Lesnar told ESPN.com that he has since gone back and analyzed what went wrong against Velasquez.

"Going back and looking at the fight, it was toe-to-toe," he said. "We were toe-to-toe in all aspects of the stand-up. When I stood back up in the transition was when I got caught with a left uppercut and wasn't able to recover."

Lesnar said that reviewing the fight has definitely had a positive effect, and he hinted that he knows what not to do now.

"After watching the fight," he said, "I came out of my evaluation with confidence. I just have to step in there and execute."

Though not quite on Velasquez's level, Junior dos Santos is also a dangerous striker, but Lesnar issued his opponent a warning about one area that he could improve in.

"He'd better get good with his double-leg takedown defense," said Lesnar. "There hasn't been a heavyweight that I've faced who I haven't been able to take down."

In a recent conference call, dos Santos didn't offer any suggestions of his own for Lesnar. He just said that he got to know him through "The Ultimate Fighter," and that he thinks Lesnar is "a pretty nice guy."

However, he also said, "But on June 11, none of that really matters. My goal is to go in there and beat Brock."

Between the two of them, Lesnar is probably the fighter who is going into the bout with more to prove. Despite the fact he defended his Heavyweight championship twice after taking it from randy Couture in 2008, it has always been apparent that there aren't many people out there who admire his fighting style. Instead of a fighter, most folks see a brawler who gets by solely because of his bulk. This appeared to be true when he had no answer for Velasquez's stand-up game, and it's doubtful that Lesnar would ever get another shot at his old title if he were to lose to dos Santos.

Nevertheless, Lesnar is definitely confident about his chances against dos Santos. "I can take this fight wherever I want to take it," he said. "And that's half the battle right there."

Maria Sharapova has come a long way. The once naive little girl that took the tennis world by storm, and stole our hearts, is gone.

What is left is a grounded woman with a new outlook on life. It is amazing to think that she is only 23. She handles the fame with such grace and dignity. As she continues to return to form, she has a wedding to plan. We have all the thoughts and details on her upcoming nuptials.

Jessica Simpson is also in the news. This buxom beauty can sing. She can act. Can she judge? The fiance of former-NFL player Eric Johnson has been approached to be a judge on the upcoming X-Factor.

How would you like standing on the other end of a firing squad that featured Jessica Simpson? I would like it just fine. In fact, that is how I prefer my firing squads.

How can I not get some love out for my boy Hines Ward? The man is killing it on Dancing With the Stars. Tonight is the first elimination for the 12th season of the popular show. So will Hines Ward and Kym Johnson sidestep the chopping block?

They better. They have been the most consistent, show-stopping dancers out there. Yes, I have finally become a fan of the show.

Apple sets dates for WWDC 2011: June 6-10

Apple announced the dates for WWDC 2011 this Monday morning. The Apple developers' conference will take place from June 6 to June 10 at Moscone West in San Francisco.

As expected, Apple will "unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS" at the developers conference. Apple will also host hundreds of technical sessions and offer code-level assistance from Apple engineers.

Besides details on iOS 5.0, WWDC is also expected to unveil the final details and availability of Mac OS X Lion. Apple may also introduce the iPhone 5, but recent rumors suggest a fall launch of iOS and the iPhone 5 instead of the traditional summer debut.

Update: The Loop has chimed in with information that suggests WWDC this year will be a software-only event. No iPhone, iPad or Mac hardware will be introduced. Gartner analyst Michael Gartenberg also cautions customers about getting caught up in this yearly cycle, "There is no reason for Apple to follow a predictable yearly pattern, and it keeps their competition off guard a little bit."

Amex wants to Serve up money from your iPhone

The ability to leave your wallet at home and pay -- or get paid -- for everything with your iPhone is a hot ticket for financial service providers, and today it got even hotter.

Amex announced a new payment service called Serve that is available immediately, and while you'll still need a card for paying for items at locations that take American Express cards, that card is completely tied to your Serve account. The Serve card can be reloaded either from the Serve website or from an iPhone or Android-based phone app, then used at any Amex location.

The company also wants you to use Serve to facilitate person to person transactions. Amex uses the examples of paying your nanny, paying an allowance to your kids or giving an employee an expense account. All the other person needs is a Serve account and a device to access the account. Got an iPhone? You can send or receive payments, and there's no need for a card-swiping dongle or a special Near Field Communication (NFC) case for your device.

Available only in the US at this point, Amex also touts the security of the new system. Serve uses an "advanced" encryption system, a confidential PIN and multi-factor authentication to ensure that your account can only be used by you.

Amex bought out would-be PayPal competitor Revolution Money last year and acquired the technology used in Serve. Earlier this month, Visa announced an agreement with Fiserv and CashEdge that will let the payment apps from those companies -- ZashPay and POPmoney -- work with Visa accounts. Not to be left out, Google is looking into an agreement with MasterCard and Citigroup for an NFC-based payment system.

iPad 2 coming to Radio Shack March 29 (confirmed)

The next time you're in RadioShack buying another radio-controlled monster truck to trick out with a Wi-Fi webcam and spy on your neighbors, you might want to keep your eyes open for something a bit more expensive -- an iPad 2.

MacRumors is reporting that despite widespread sellouts of the shiny new toy worldwide, Apple has apparently made enough iPad 2s to supply a new retailer. That retailer is RadioShack, and starting tomorrow (March 29) they'll have the devices at 500 U.S. locations. This started as simply a rumor when the RadioShack internal memo pictured above was sent to the website, but was verified by RadioShack store representatives who said they expected to have iPad 2s in stock tomorrow morning.

As MacRumors notes, it seems odd for Apple to add a new retailer at this time unless the company is confident that it can ramp up production quickly. RadioShack representatives were unable to confirm how many of the units they'll have on hand. If you can't get an iPad 2, they may have enough available monster trucks to keep you happy.

Update: Sneaky monkeys. Radio Shack's website is already featuring a hidden product page for the iPad 2, ferreted out by 9to5Mac. Looks like it's for real!
