NBA Playoffs 2011: Lakers Game 1 Breakdown

NBA Playoffs 2011: Lakers Look to Send Message after Kobe's slip up

When the Lakers take the court at Staples Center against the New Orleans Hornets, the expectations for the team to win their third consecutive title among the fan base will be at an all-time high.

The Lakers, having been to the finals each of the last three seasons (winning two), know this. Because of that, it's imperative that the Lakers send a message with strong play in game one, especially in the wake of Kobe Bryant's poor choice of words.

After TMZ released unedited video footage of Bryant's blunder, a Los Angeles Lakers' team representative told TMZ Sports, "The Lakers can not confirm that is what Kobe said or not".

Well that's fine and dandy, but now it looks even sillier since the Black Mamba himself has come out and apologized for the incident.

I'd expect the Lakers to come out in this game and establish a good tempo from the tip. Even if Andrew Bynum's hyperextended knee limits him in the initial game of the series, the Lakers' experience should really serve to benefit them in the postseason.

Above all, the Lakers are going to need consistent play from Lamar Odom either off the bench or in a starting role depending on the health of Bynum. Team reporter Mike Trudell passes on how Hornets head coach Monty Williams feels about Khloe Kardashian's husband:

"Hornets Coach Monty Williams said back in January that there was 'no question' that Odom is the best bench player in the NBA. He elaborated, discussing just how difficult Odom is to account for while preparing a scouting report, and was among the earliest on the 'Lamar for Sixth Man' campaign."

If the Lakers somehow find a way in which to lose to Memphis on Sunday, you can bet that some fans in Tinseltown will be doing their best impression of athletes on this list
