College Football 2011: Will Michael Floyd Take the Field for Notre Dame?

Will Brian Kelly and Notre Dame Play Michael Floyd in 2011 College Football Season?

One step forward, two steps back.

That has been the story of Irish receiver Michael Floyd's college football life.

For the second time since stepping foot in South Bend, Floyd has had a run-in with the law because of alcohol.

His latest was a DUI he received on March 20th. The teams all-time TD receptions leader may face expulsion when he faces Notre Dame's Residence Life later this week.

He was arrested for underage consumption back in January 2010 as well.

ESPN.com contributor Brian Bennett has some strong words for Floyd's action:

"Kelly praised Floyd last year for his work ethic and leadership on the field, but the senior has now put both himself and his team's fortunes in jeopardy. A cloud will hang over spring practice. This should have been a time for celebrating his return to the Irish and contemplating the school records he might break. Instead, Floyd has let a lot of people down, including himself."

I wonder if Floyd is regretting his decision to stay for his senior season now?

Floyd has got to be smarter than that and his lack of maturity may derail Notre Dame's entire season.

While Kelly will not hand down his punishment until the university does?you can expect at least a two-game suspension.

The Fighting Irish can't replace his 1025 yards and 12 TDs from 2010. I think his suspension is going to be light because of it.

Kelly knows college kids do dumb things and it's a matter of learning from them and not making the same mistake yet again.

Kelly thinks Floyd is already taking a step in the right direction as told to the Chicago Tribune:

"I'm not going to get into his personal life, but I think you can read between the lines. He's already reached out to make that happen in a very positive way. So he understands he needs to be educated. And he's started that process."

Expect a 2-3 games suspension with plenty of "changed his life around" stories and be prepared to hear the world "redemption" a lot.

Floyd is too important to the Irish to miss more than a handful of games for a alcohol related offense.
