The Rockets made multiple deals today, changing the roster at the trade deadline.
Houston sent fan favorite Shane Battier and Ish Smith to the Memphis Grizzlies for Hasheem Thabeet and a first round pick.
Thabeet is more of a long-term project because of his struggles in his time at Memphis. He was the #2 overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.
According to sources, the key to the deal was the first round pick they acquired.
The 7-foot-3 Thabeet will look to actually use his potential and maybe a change of scenery is a good thing.
For the season, Thabeet has averaged 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game; poor numbers for someone drafted that high.
In a separate deal with the Suns, the Rockets acquired a lottery protected first round pick and Goran Dragic, while shipping out Aaron Brooks.
The 24 year-old Dragic has had his moments with the Suns and could be a capable backup to Kyle Lowry.
