Kenny Dalglish is working under the assumption that anything given free is a good thing. That sentiment ends when you bring back a player that proved cancerous on his last tour. The discussion on Craig Bellamy going to Anfield needs to end before it?s too late.
Mirror Football reports out-of-favor striker Craig Bellamy may make the move from Manchester City to the club he once played for, Liverpool.
The one caveat is that Dalglish would want the journeyman for free. There will be no transfer fee attributed if he is to make the move. City look prepared to swallow the 95,000-a-week contract just to get him off their payroll.
The report cites Wales manager Gary Speed as taking up for Bellamy. That would make one person that thinks this is a sound decision.
It?s only natural Craig is going to be linked with top clubs because he is a top player. Liverpool are a fantastic club and if that?s true and it comes off, that would be great. Hopefully by the end of the transfer window things will be sorted out.
Even Bellamy has hinted out that he would love a return to Anfield. That makes sense considering he has lost a great deal of playing time at City.
It would seem like a no brainer. You get a 32-year old striker that would bring depth to the Reds? attack. I beg to differ though. Bellamy has been unable to stick in one place, which should raise warning flags.
The greatest setback for me is the past transgressions of Bellamy. I am of course referring to him going after teammate John Arne Riise with a golf club at a Portuguese training camp in 2007.
He also proved to be a thorn in then manager Rafa Benitez?s side. This is a gamble that Dalglish does not need to make.
I am all for infusing the side with as much depth ahead of the deadline. But you can over stack the deck, and this would be one of those times.
Bellamy is much better off where he is, away from Liverpool.
