WWE News: How Will the WWE Succeed with Its Own Television Network?

WWE News talks about rumors of WWE TV

In an aggressive move to brand outside of the ?wrestling? label, the WWE is in the beginning stages of developing their own television network. According to Wrestlezone.com, the WWE has a rough outline of programming for the station.

Nick Paglino writes:

The current plan is to air new scripted programming in addition to back episodes and matches that the company has in its extensive back library. The new WWE network is also expected to air the show WWE can't land TV deals for like NXT and Superstars. The YES Network continues to be a model channel which WWE is using as a template/example channel for its new network.

I think the WWE has the right idea by getting their own network. If there intention is to increase their brand outside of in-ring action, then developing their own station would be essential in doing that.

While I cringe at the thought of catching ?The Marine? on television, I do think WWE fans could get behind the idea of seeing classic matches, replays of special DVD?s the company has released as well as SmackDown and eventually RAW.

Of course the one issue the WWE is going to have is making sure they have enough non-wrestling programming right out of the gate before they launch the station. Otherwise they run the risk of getting pigeon-holed as ?the wrestling station.?

Either way, thinking bigger and better is never a bad thing.
