Barry Bonds: Former Giants Slugger Barry Bonds Gets Felony Charges Reduced

Barry Bonds Gets Number of Felony Charges Reduced Significantly.

Former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds, who was facing 11 felony charges for allegedly lying under oath when he testified he never knowingly took performance-enhancing drugs, has had the number of felony charges reduced, according to ESPN.

Bonds now faces five felony charges and is scheduled to stand trial on March 21.

He is still being charged with perjury for saying no one other than a doctor stuck a needle in him and for obstructing the grand jury's investigation of sports doping by misleading the jury.

Bonds, who holds the all-time home run record over Hank Aaron with 762 home runs, has been a target ever since there were claims that he took steroids while playing baseball with the Giants.

It has led to some saying his record should be labeled with an asterisk in the history books and even some to declare he shouldn't even be placed ahead of Aaron, despite the advantage over Aaron by the numbers.

No matter what side you're on with Bonds, it's clear that his legacy is not what it once was, and he faces the same criticism as players such as Mark McGuire and Roger Clemens have faced regarding steroid allegations.

If Bonds is found to be not guilty during the trial, it would most likely incite outrage among the general public on a large scale.

The reduction of charges has already drawn some anger from the media and public.

Whatever happens to Bonds in court, it's clear that he will probably never get off the hook for possibly using performance-enhancing drugs in some people's eyes.
