NBA review: Chicago Bulls take top seed status for play-offs

? Bulls close regular season with ninth straight victory
? San Antonio Spurs lose 106-103 to the Phoenix Suns

Kyle Korver scored 19 points as the Chicago Bulls closed the regular season with their ninth straight victory, beating the New Jersey Nets 97-92. The Bulls had to wait for San Antonio's result to see who would be seeded No1 for the play-offs ? with the Spurs' loss to Phoenix earning them home-court advantage.

Joakim Noah finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds to help the Bulls finish 62-20, equalling their best showing since the 1997-98 championship season. They begin their play-off campaign against the Indiana Pacers.

Suns 106, Spurs 103

Marcin Gortat had 21 points and 13 rebounds as Phoenix denied San Antonio their chance to secure home-court advantage throughout the play-offs. The Spurs, who at 61-21 finished a game behind Chicago for the best record in the NBA, lost Manu Ginobili to injury early in the game. San Antonio will open against Memphis in the play-offs.

Lakers 116, Kings 108, OT

Lakers star Kobe Bryant scored 36 points and forced overtime with a tying three-pointer with 4.8 seconds left in regulation, as the Kings lost what might be their last game in Sacramento. A standing-room only crowd packed the 17,317-seat capacity arena, clanking cow bells and roaring louder than they had in years. With the team mulling a move to Anaheim, fans brought handmade signs and cheered their loudest to will the team back. Instead, the Lakers pulled away in overtime to take the No2 seed in the Western Conference, setting up a first-round series against New Orleans. Marcus Thornton had 33 points and Tyreke Evans added 16 for the Kings.

Heat 97, Raptors 79

Eddie House scored a career-high 35 points and Juwan Howard added 18 as Miami beat Toronto. With the Heat assured of the second seed in the East, Miami's coach, Erik Spoelstra, rested LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Miami will host Philadelphia in its post-season opener. House's previous career best was 31, set against Utah on 18 November 2005. He was seven of 13 from three-point range. The Heat have won four straight and 15 of 18 heading into the play-offs. Jerryd Bayless scored 21 points for Toronto.

Celtics 112, Knicks 102

At Boston, Avery Bradley scored a career-high 20 points to help Boston's "B'' team beat New York's second string. Glen "Big Baby" Davis had 17 points and eight rebounds, and Sasha Pavlovic added a season-high 19 points as the Celtics ended a two-game losing streak. Amare Stoudemire played 20 minutes and scored 14 points for New York.

Magic 92, Pacers 74

Ryan Anderson scored 14 points, and Dwight Howard had 13 points and 13 rebounds in a short night in Orlando's victory over Indiana. Mike Dunleavy and Brandon Rush both scored 16 points for Indiana. The Pacers will open their first play-off series in five years against top-seeded Chicago, while the Magic will host Atlanta in a match-up of the fourth and fifth seeds.

Clippers 110, Grizzlies 103

Blake Griffin had 31 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the 82nd and final game of his spectacular rookie season for Los Angeles. Griffin sat out all 82 games last season after hurting his knee in the final pre-season game and having surgery. He was the only player to appear in every game this season when injuries plagued the team. Eric Gordon added 24 points and DeAndre Jordan had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Los Angeles. The Clippers finished 32-50 to miss the playoffs again.

Mavericks 121, Hornets 89

Dirk Nowitzki scored 12 of his 32 points in the decisive third quarter, leading Dallas past New Orleans. Dallas wound up No 3 in the Western Conference and will face Portland in the opening round. New Orleans hung on to the seventh spot because Memphis also lost. The Hornets will face the Lakers. Jarrett Jack led New Orleans with 22 points.

Warriors 110, Trail Blazers 86

Reggie Williams scored 28 points, and Stephen Curry had 18 points and nine assists in Golden State's victory over Portland. Dorell Wright had 20 points to cap a breakout season for the veteran forward and David Lee added 13 points for the Warriors. Patty Mills had a career-high 23 points and Wesley Matthews added 18 points for Portland, which already had secured the No6 seed in the Western Conference.

Bucks 110, Thunder 106, OT

Brandon Jennings scored 16 points as Milwaukee beat Oklahoma City. Jennings outscored the Thunder 8-2 in the final 2:21, hitting the go-ahead reverse layup with 56.8 seconds left and then hitting two free throws to put the game away. Russell Westbrook scored 20 points and Kevin Durant added 14 in a season-low 23 minutes as the Thunder gave their starters a lightened load with the playoffs looming. Oklahoma City will be the No4 seed in the Western Conference and open against Denver.

Jazz 107, Nuggets 103

At Salt Lake City, rookie Gordon Hayward scored a career-high 34 points and hit five three-pointers to lift Utah past play-off-bound Denver. The game meant little to the Nuggets, who already had secured the Western Conference's No5 seed and rested many of their players. Wilson Chandler led the Nuggets with 27 points.

Bobcats 96, Hawks 85

Gerald Henderson scored 20 points, and DJ Augustin added 17 points and seven assists as Charlotte sent Atlanta into the play-offs on a six-game losing streak. With no starter playing more than 25 minutes and only Kirk Hinrich (10 points) scoring in double figures, the coach, Larry Drew, earned the Hawks rest, but no momentum heading into their first-round game at Orlando.

Pistons 104, 76ers 100

Rodney Stuckey scored 29 points, and Tayshaun Prince had 14 to help Detroit hand play-off-bound Philadelphia its fifth loss in six games. Jrue Holiday led the 76ers with 21 points. They will open the play-offs against Miami.

Cavaliers 100, Wizards 93

At Cleveland, Ramon Sessions scored 27 points and JJ Hickson added 15 as Cleveland closed out one of the worst seasons in franchise history and the first in eight years without LeBron James. The Cavs finished 19-63, an extreme drop after going a league-best 61-21 during the regular season in 2010. Andray Blatche scored 20 for Washington.

Rockets 121, Timberwolves 102

At Minneapolis, Chase Budinger scored a career-high 35 points and Kevin Martin added 25 for Houston. Michael Beasley scored 34 points and Anthony Randolph had 23 for Minnesota. The Timberwolves lost their last 15 games of the season to finish with the worst record in the NBA at 15-65.

2011 NFL Draft Grades: 5 Picks Who Would Fit Better on Another Team

Cameron Jordan Headlines 2011 NFL Draft Picks Who Might Look Better In Another Uniform

These players may not get the most out of their talents because of the system they?ll be entering.

Cameron Jordan, Saints

Jordan?s strength is run defense and New Orleans needs him to be a pass-rushing force in their 4-3 alignment. A 3-4 team like the Jets might have been a better home for him.

Phil Taylor, Browns

Cleveland is moving to a 4-3 front that may not get the most out of the massive Taylor, the draft?s best true nose tackle.

Colin Kaepernick, 49ers

Kaepernick would?ve had to adjust to any offense after Nevada?s distinctive pistol formation. Still, a West Coast offense like San Francisco?s isn?t an obvious choice for a QB who excels at improvising.

Rodney Hudson, Chiefs

Hudson is a prototypical zone blocker who won?t be in a zone scheme with Kansas City. A team like Washington would?ve been a better fit for the undersized center.

Sione Fua, Panthers

Like Taylor, Fua is a legitimate nose tackle, and like Taylor, he?s joining a team that plays mostly 4-3 fronts. He?s missing his calling by not playing in a 3-4.

New York Knicks 'beat New Jersey Nets to secure Carmelo Anthony deal'

? Move would end speculation involving Denver's All-Star forward
? Money-spinning deal yet to be officially confirmed

The New York Knicks have beaten their rivals the New Jersey Nets to sign Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets, according to a person familiar with the deal.

The move that would finish the season-long trade speculation involving Denver's All-Star forward and send him to his desired destination cannot be finalised until Tuesday during a conference call with the NBA office. Assuming it goes through, it puts Anthony alongside Amar'e Stoudemire in a potentially explosive frontcourt ? at a heavy cost to the Knicks.

The source provided no other details of who was in the deal, which was first reported on Monday by the Denver Post. The person spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly on the trade.

The Post, citing a league source, said the Knicks would send Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov and a 2014 first-round draft pick to the Nuggets, who would get additional picks and cash. Along with Anthony, New York would acquire Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman.

ESPN later reported it was a three-way deal with Minnesota, who would acquire Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph from the Knicks for Corey Brewer.

The Nuggets have explored an Anthony trade since he refused to sign the three-year contract extension worth nearly $65m (40.19m) they offered him last summer. They appeared on the verge of sending him to the Nets on several occasions, but the Knicks increased their offer enough to land Anthony, who was believed to prefer New York all along.

"All trades, for coaches, are sad, there's happy and sad. I'm glad it's over, I'm glad it's an opportunity to reinvent," the Denver coach, George Karl, said. "I think everybody handled it as classy as you can handle it. There's some sadness to it, there always will be. In the same, it's time to move on, reinvent."

For the first time ever, Apple beats Microsoft in quarterly profit

Today Microsoft announced its net profit for the first calendar quarter of 2011. That net profit was $5.23 billion, or $760 million dollars less than Apple's $5.99 billion net profit over the same period. For those keeping track, first Apple surpassed Microsoft in market capitalization, next they surpassed Microsoft in quarterly revenue, and now Apple has surpassed Microsoft in quarterly profits. Surpassing Microsoft's net profit is quite an accomplishment given the typical high-margin sales of Microsoft's software and the lower-margin sales of Apple's hardware.

Matter of fact, by every standard financial measure, Apple has now surpassed Microsoft to be the most profitable and valuable tech company on the planet. No wonder some people think Apple is headed to be the first trillion dollar company.

NFL Draft 2011 Grades: San Diego Chargers 2nd and 3rd Round Analysis

Defense has been a top priority for the San Diego Chargers in the first three rounds of the 2011 NFL Draft. They have several key defensive starters eligible for free agency once the collective bargaining agreement is in place. The drafting of these young players will give GM A.J. Smith some leverage in the upcoming negotiations.

His first selection was Clemson’s Marcus Gilchrist, a versatile defensive back who can play either at the corner or safety position. He is an insurance policy in the event that Eric Weddle leaves San Diego as a free agent.

Scouts love his football IQ, as Gilchrist is constantly calling out offensive formations to his teammates prior to the snap of the ball. The one negative against him is being a step slow in reacting to the quarterback, and that’s usually the difference between an interception and a completed pass.

Then, Smith went outside of the box with his second selection in Round 2. He chose Michigan LB Jonas Mouton, a converted safety who needs to shed blocks better to be successful in the NFL.

This was an obvious knee-jerk reaction to fill a need rather than selecting the best available athlete on the draftboard. Potentially, the Chargers could lose three inside linebackers (Kevin Burnett, Stephen Cooper and Brandon Siler) to free agency, and Smith panicked by selecting a player who was at best projected to be a sixth-round draft choice.

In the third round, the Chargers went for offense by selecting hometown hero WR Vincent Brown from San Diego State University. His above-average speed will allow him to stretch the defense and create some separation from the secondary. Brown could become Philip Rivers’ top receiver, as Chargers fans will fall in love with his aggressive play over the middle and Brown’s uncanny ability to catch poorly thrown balls.

Smith’s final selection on Friday night was USC CB Shreece Wright, who could challenge Antoine Cason for his starting cornerback position by season’s end. He loves to mirror opposing receivers in man-to-man coverage and Wright’s athleticism will allow him to develop into a solid cover cornerback in the pros. Nothing seems to rattle him, as Wright has complete confidence in his playmaking ability to overcome any obstacle on the field.

NBA Playoffs 2011: Can Memphis Grizzlies Continue Playoff Run Against Thunder?

The Memphis Grizzlies shocked the world with their first round upset win over the heavily favored San Antonio Spurs. Apparently the Grizzlies knew something nobody else did, as they intentionally rested players in the final games of the regular season when they still had the chance to move up from the No. 8 spot to No. 7 and even No. 6.  They wanted the Spurs and they showed why.

There is no doubt Memphis is a talented team and surely their series win was not as mind blowing as the Warriors over the Mavericks a few seasons ago. The question is, can Memphis upset the Thunder, a team many believe is the favorite to come out of the West?

Outside of Tennessee, no one is likely giving Memphis much of a chance at taking down the Thunder. However, during the regular season, the Grizzlies did take three out of four from the Thunder. All four games were decided by an average of just six points per game, including one that went to overtime.

The key to the series will be Zach Randolph. Randolph was unstoppable in the fourth quarter of the series clincher against the Spurs and during the regular season against Oklahoma, he averaged 27 points per game, including two 31-point outbursts. Not only did Randolph light up the scoreboard, he did it on 58 percent shooting.

So, can the Grizzlies really beat the Thunder in a seven game series? The answer is yes, but Randolph will have to continue his torrid pace, and the Grizzlies will have to find a way to slow down either Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook.

Series Prediction: Thunder in 7.

Destroyer ? Savage Night At The Opera

I’m totally calling an audible on this one. I had this big ole post written up in which I tried to justify posting some tunes from the fantastic new Destroyer (aka Dan Bejar) album Kaputt. I planned on posting it at some point during my upcoming Coachella/sun/awesome vacation and discussing how I just saw the band live a few weeks back and how the saxophone and trumpet added the warmest of sounds to the male and female complimentary vocals, and how the music (which I feel is a bit of a modern indie version of anyone’sread more and hear the song

Prince William and Kate Middleton Take Royal Joyride in Aston Martin Convertible (VIDEO)

Filed under:

Just like any other married couple, Prince William and his new bride Kate Middleton drove off together in a festively decorated car after their 'Royal Wedding' (6AM on NBC).

Unlike most people, though, their ride was Prince Charles' royal blue Aston Martin convertible, decked out in the, uh, traditional royal streamers and helium balloons with a "JU5T WED" license plate.

With William at the wheel, the couple drove through the streets of London and waved at the crowds. As the 'Today' show anchors were quick to point out, the ride was decidedly un-planned and un-royal. Their only official escort was the dark Range Rover keeping close pace behind them.

Another Coachella has come and gone. And while I consciously made the decision to just sit back and enjoy the festival instead of taking tons of picture and videos to share with all of you (since readership has gone through the tubes and I’ve kind of stopped caring), I still thought it might be worth mentioning a thing or two that stood out from the rest this weekend. Rumor: Apple might have bought iCloud.com

GigaOm is reporting that Sweden-based cloud storage company Xcerion has just sold its iCloud.com domain name for US$4.5 million and that the likely buyer is none other than Apple. Xcerion had previously sold a cloud-based storage service called iCloud, but it's been rebranded as CloudMe after the sale of the iCloud.com domain.

While GigaOm doesn't get into specifics, the site says its source is familiar with the company and that the buyer of the domain name is Apple. Currently, the WhoIs information still lists Xcerion as the owner of iCloud.com, but that could be a deliberate move until Apple reveals its new cloud-based services.

Even though GigaOm doesn't name its source, it does fit in with other reports that Apple is gearing up to launch a digital locker soon. Apple does have a penchant of throwing an "i" in front of everything. If GigaOm's sources are correct, get ready to say goodbye to iDisk and hello to Apple's iCloud.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Nick Fairley an A+ Level Steal for Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions' selection of Auburn's Nick Fairley with the 13th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft is proof of why teams should draft for talent, not for need.

Ostensibly, the Lions didn't need Fairley.  They already have Ndamukong Suh, one of the league's premier defensive tackles entering just his second NFL season.  Another defensive tackle wasn't really a need or a priority.

But if top five talent lands in your lap, are you really going to argue?

Yes, in my book, Fairley was a top five player in the 2011 NFL Draft class.  I don't care that he "only had one dominant year" at Auburn.  All I need to know is: how dominant was it, and was it his most recent year?  Is there any reason to believe he would regress?  No.  Okay, then.  He's a top five player.

For some odd reason, though, teams like the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings chose to make desperation picks instead of value picks, and Fairley slipped to the Lions at 13.  It only seems appropriate that Detroit should start catching some breaks like these, though.  How many years have the Lions been the butt of every NFL joke?  How many years have they been embarrassed on Thanksgiving Day?

I like the direction Jim Schwartz has his team headed, and I love the pairing of Fairley and Suh.  A lot of folks are comparing it to the old Williams Wall in Minnesota, but Kevin Williams and Pat Williams weren't major pass-rush threats.  Both Suh and Fairley are.  This wall won't just be on the defensive, it will go on the offensive at all.

Good luck, NFC North offenses.

Happy Trendy ? Nerves (Coma Cinema Remix)

As I’ve been somewhat uninspired as of late, I once again turned to my trusty companion shuffler.fm to see what might turn up under the “Experimental” label. And once again, I found something worth listening to, talking about, posting in a music blog about, etc. Happy Trendy is 17 year old (yes, 17 year old) Dylan Khotin-Foote and he’s put together a pretty little tune by the name of “Nerves”, half of his recently released 7″ of the same name. It starts out with just one note repeated again and again but itread more and hear the song

NFL Draft 2011: Dallas Cowboys Won't Make Trade with New England Patriots

Don't Expect Cowboys and Patriots to Make a Deal in 2011 NFL Draft

A couple hours ago, there were rumblings that the New England Patriots were trying to make a deal with the Dallas Cowboys for the No. 9 pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

The deal sounded legit. The rumor mill has had the Cowboys looking to trade down for a while now, and the Patriots, who hold three of the first 33 picks, definitely have the means to trade up.

But alas, it's just a rumor, and ESPN's Adam Schefter doesn't think you should hold your breath waiting for this trade to happen. He said as much on Twitter:

Any proposed Cowboys-Patriots trade will not happen. Yet there are any number of teams interested in moving back, including Dallas.

Schefter didn't say why we shouldn't expect a Cowboys-Patriots trade, but my guess is that it has something do with the player the Patriots were reportedly looking to acquire with Dallas' pick: Cal defensive end Cameron Jordan. The Cowboys also have a need for a 3-4 defensive end, and Jordan would definitely fit the bill.

MUST READ: 2011 NFL Mock Draft: Final Predictions for the Top 50 Players on the Big Board

Still, as Schefter points out, this doesn't mean that the Cowboys are not going to trade down at some point tonight. In addition to a 3-4 DE, they also have a need for offensive line help, and they don't need to use the No. 9 pick on an offensive lineman. USC's Tyron Smith would be a good pick, but they could just as easily get somebody like Boston College's Anthony Castonzo if they trade down.

On balance, all I can say is that you should stay tuned. There's been a lot of chatter today, and most of it is going to end up being utter BS by the time the first round is over.

[Video] Project Jenny, Project Jan ? Lucky Me

Ok kids, I’m not going to lie, I’ve never heard of Project Jenny, Project Jan. But when I heard that their newest music video got posted on mashable, I knew that there must have been something pretty noteworthy about, and that was exactly the case. You see, what made this video mashable worthy was the fact that the New York based band worked completely remotely with Turkish artist Hikmet Barutugil who is a pro at the technique you see in the video called marbling, which is essentially painting atop an aqueous surface. Et gudlst forsyn
Famlende i metanolens mrke
Min fordervede tvilingsjel
la oss gro sammen i skitt

Anorektiske engler, falne fra nde
Byr meg opp til ddsans
En lukt av jordslag og kjnn
Revet fra fatning, i drlig rus

Ljusbejaende kyskhet
Penetrert til en tilstand bortenfor
Gjenfdt i den niende sirkel
Lenket til grunnen, for dd til drmme

Skret ut i yet av Bafomet
Disipler tent som vokslys
Mensblod og satanisk metal
Gr opp i en hyere enhet

Gi meg til del sakramentes travesti
Av den bldende venus
Og kristi utskrapte legeme
Hans vilje kvalt p jorden som i helvete

Barn av denne skrinne jord
Kom som duer til mitt strupetak
Med insikten av 13 antiteser
Lar jeg slipe mine redskaper

Vi gir dem ikke slipp p livet
Fr vi har pisset i det
Og risset inn det motsatte segl
For fullbyrde vr svartekunst

Lykke Li ? Sadness Is A Blessing (Gold Panda Remix)

I consider myself a pretty big Lykke Li fan, both because I like her music and because she has such a classic sort of beauty (a simple image search will validate this claim) and just so happens to be smokin’ hot. And I’m also a pretty huge Gold Panda fan because Gold Panda is a G. And I guess even though I knew that Lykke Li tends to get the heavy remix treatment, I never really considered the possibility of those two artists joining forces in such a way that I could enjoy both of their sounds at theread more and hear the song

UFC 129 Fight Card: Does Lyoto Machida Have Another Fight In Mind After UFC 129?

Before UFC 129 Lyoto Machida Says He Wants On UFC Rio Card

Just about 48 hours before one of the most important fights in Lyoto Machida's entire career and he is talking about being a part of the next mega-show that UFC will put on later this year. Machida, who is from Brazil, told Sherdog.com that he wants a fight on the UFC Rio show in August.

From Marcelo Alonso (via Sherdog.com):

My desire [to fight on the card] is so great, Machida told Sherdog.com. Being able to fight here in a big event is part of my dream. I?ve fought in smaller events, but I?d like to fight in a big event in Brazil. I?m waiting for the opportunity, and I?ve heard from people who want to see me there. I?d like to show my appreciation in the Octagon and show a little of our fighting style to the entire public.

That UFC Rio card is already stacked, and adding Machida to it would make it even bigger. He doesn't offer up an opponent in the interview - he just says that he will leave that to the guys in charge.

Must Read: The 25 Best Welterweight Title Fights In UFC History

If Machida were to defeat Randy Couture at UFC 129, he would presumably move near the top of the light heavyweight rankings. That would make a potential fight on the UFC Rio card a No. 1 contender fight for a shot at Jon Jones. Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will battle at UFC 133, but there are no guarantees that if Davis wins he will get a title shot.

All this talk about UFC Rio is great, but if Machida doesn't take care of business this weekend it becomes a moot point. He wants to get back into title contention, and in order to do that he has to defeat the legend of Randy Couture in two days.

Will 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' Actors Be Hired by Other Soaps?

Filed under:

All My Children, One Life to LiveAccording to Deadline, Sony Television, which partially owns surviving soaps 'The Young and the Restless' and 'Days of our Lives,' wants its soaps to snatch up available talent from 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live,' which have recently -- and tragically -- been canceled by ABC.

While that's likely to happen to some degree ('AMC' and 'OLTL' picked up actors from 'Guiding Light' and 'As the World Turns' after they were canceled a while back), shows need to be careful who they go after.

Veteran daytime talent manager Michael Bruno, who reps actors including Amelia Heinle and Stephen Nichols on 'Y&R' and Lauren Koslow on 'Days,' notes that there's a right and a wrong way to go about maximizing the genre's available talent. Read his comments after the jump.
